Mark of Keeping

This mark is in Sigil Underground's five villages: Gypsy Village, Troglodyte Village, Bandit Camp, Ghost Town, and Genauras.

The gist is that Archmage Oranillis has lost five bits of parchment, and you have to recover them. They are hidden in the villages, one in each village. To find them, you could go around to each of the villages (by the way I recommend using Cwn Annwn's virtual map to find your way around because its a mess down there navigation-wise,) and use the search command in every room of every village until you find a lost bit of the wizard's something or other.

Or you could use your handy pendant of Lord Maldra that is useful for just these scenarios and just walk around until you detect some hidden objects. Then you'll still have to search to reveal them, but its faster than searching in every room.

As far as I am aware, the lost bits can be found in any room in the village, making it a challenge if it spawns in a hidden area or behind a locked door. Once you find all five lost bits, you are granted the mark.

You take a lost bit of the Wizard's personality.
You have found one of the Wizard's lost bits of personality!
The smiling visage of Archmage Oranillis appears in your mind.
Archmage Oranillis tells you, 'I am glad that found those, Lantis.'
Archmage Oranillis tells you, 'You are as unable to fathom their importance as anyone else who might have found them, but I am pleased that they have been found.'
Archmage Oranillis tells you, 'I am far away from any possessions with which I could reward you for finding all of those parchments, but let me see if there's not anything else I could do for you.'
There is a slight *poof* as Archmage Oranillis mystically and remotely delivers something to you.
For maintaining the integrity and safety of Archmage Oranillis, the Powers have granted thee a Mark.
You have been granted the Mark of Keeping!
You gain 50 archon points!
You gain 50 archon points!
You gain 50 archon points!
You gain 50 archon points!

You raise a level of experience!
You gain 5 hit points, 5 spell points, 5 stamina, and 12 practices!
You have become more learned at 'cause serious' (11%).
[CLAN] Archon Lantis has gained class level 69, total level 241!

You gain 50 archon points!
You gain 41 practices!

So there you go. For as long as it took me to find all the pieces, this mark is pretty straightforward. As far as I know, there's nothing you need to do with the lost bits after you get the mark. I went to see what would happen if I gave them back to the Archmage, but nothing happened.

Oh, and he also gave me the mighty sword of a wizard guardian, which is a two-handed 241 sword with poison, but requires the mark of Assault. Great.

Mark of Kindness/Cruelty

As usual, I was hunting for scatters on Lantis, but with limited success. It seems, for some reason that the amount of scatter items has been tweaked down in recent weeks, making it very difficult to find a manual or anything else, even if you are looking. I was on my way to Templeton when I heard Dwarfius shout that she was selling a love that could not be.

Item 'a love that could not be' is type artifact, alignment 0, made of unknown,
has keywords 'agrippa saresyn love could not momentary emotion'.
This item weighs 0 stones and 0 pebbles, and is valued at 8,425 gp.
This level 5 item has the attributes: identified explode vanish-if-dropped
Plucked from the infinite selection of things that might have been, this
shard of an emotion in a specific time and place is the essence of
fleetingness imbued with permanence. Synesthesia overwhelms the area around
it, tasting of regret and giving off the slightest scent of bitter sweet
memories. A rainbow of possibilities spans from it towards the heavens,
bathing all around it in the pale light of the future.

So I agreed to pay the 500k asking price for 'a love that could not be'. This item, if you are curious, is obtained from an ethereal mob on the underground side of Hellbent Mountain. Hellbent is a dangerous NPK and CPK area that also has numerous death traps, aggressive paralyzing mobs, and a confusing layout. Thus it is no wonder that this one object has such a high ticket value.

I handed over the 500k gold, further diminishing my bank account, and received the item. From there I immediately turned it over to Lord Agrippa.

You give a love that could not be to Lord Agrippa.

Lord Agrippa says, '...'

Lord Agrippa says, 'Thank you, Lantis.'
For allowing Lord Agrippa to relive a lost memory of Lady Saresyn, the Powers have granted thee a Mark.
You have been granted the Mark of Kindness!
You gain 150000 experience points!
You gain 40 practices!

Having the Mark of Kindness also paved the way for me to get the marks of fealty, enlightenment, and mindfulness later, all of which require first having this mark.

The alternative to getting the mark of kindness is the mark of cruelty which you can receive by giving a love that could not be to Lord Maldra in Maldra's Keep instead. Allegedly as a part of your reward, Lord Maldra will send you to a CPK level of the Proving Grounds.

Mark of Knowledge

I was afraid this one had been disabled because I couldn't get it the first few times I tried it. For this mark you must visit three libraries in Alyria in under half an hour game time (or 7 and a half minutes real time.)

First, visit the librarian in New Rigel. This is not the scholar in the palace library, but rather the crazy librarian in the magic school's scroll shop. Then, visit the demonic librarian in Arcane (CPK room.) Last, visit the librarian in the library in Maldra's Keep (NPK room.)

In order to get this mark all the librarians must be alive when you visit them, simply showing up to the libraries is not enough. To get to all the librarians you will probably have to cross through or go into CPK rooms. Thankfully, you can do this mark while as a shade. If you choose to do it while alive, I recommend not getting fullgeared in CPK.

For seeking self-improvement yourself through knowledge, the Powers have granted thee a Mark.
You have been granted the Mark of Knowledge!
You gain 45 practices!

Mark of Learning

This mark is obtainable by any level, and requires only an investment of about 10 minutes a day, every day for a week.

All that is required of your character is to visit Sombar in the newly revamped Rune Forest. He is in the northeast corner of the park now. When you visit him, you will need to take a seat in his class (sit seat), and hang out there listening to him spout of his craziness until he says that your attendance has been noted for that day. He may ask if you would be interested in extra lessons, but as far as I can tell, there is no reason to do that, since the reward is a tome of experience which is only usable by level 59 and under.

The mark counts real days, not Alyrian days.

Sombar says, 'Your attendance for Saturday has been noted, Lantis.'
Sombar smiles at you. Doesn't that just make you want to smile back at him?
'Lantis, one of my most dedicated students.' Sombar says. 'You're a fast learner, and maybe one day,
you can become my apprentice.'
'Your dedication to the philosophical arts moves me deeply...' Sombar says.
Sombar wipes away a tear.
For steadfast dedication to learning, the Powers have granted thee a Mark.
You have gained the Mark of Learning!
You gain 75 archon points!
You gain 67 practices!

Mark of Life

While looking for the pernicious hodag around Alyria, I ran into another pernicious mob, the pernicious squirt. That was no accident because I was tracking pernicious, but what was surprising to me was getting this mark. I knew this mark existed, but it is supposedly given randomly, and that could just as easily be a low random as a high one. The pernicious squirts are a scatter mob much like the jiggling cubes that spawn in cities and villages and castles and dungeons all over Alyria after the reboot. I was expecting to have to kill many pernicious squirts to get this mark. Happily, I only had to kill six or seven. No rewards for this one though, but it will probably screw me down the road.

For eradicating the bioengineered forebears of That Which Shall Not Be Named,
the Powers have granted thee a mark!
You have been granted the Mark of Life!
A pernicious squirt has been slain!
Your blood freezes as you hear a pernicious squirt's death cry.
You receive 0 experience points.
A pernicious squirt collapses lifeless to the ground.
The severed arm of a pernicious squirt falls to the ground.
The Powers give you one gold coin for your sacrifice of the corpse of a pernicious squirt.

Also, my thanks goes out to Zayla for letting me know about this mark, even though I already knew, I still appreciated the thought.

Becoming an Archon and Mark of Light/Shadow

Never again. LOL. Seriously. And yes, they really will let almost anyone in these days.

That was 9 levels of annoyance. It was annoying to have to constantly be packing my trunks to full with sprigs to mix in DOA, and to keep all my reagent bags filled up too. It was risky to have to cross the moat, even when my gear was in my trunk. It was dangerous to descend the levels in PG, and troublesome besides. But mostly it was frustrating and demoralizing to get so close sometimes to success and have it be ripped away. Level 8 was my personal nightmare. You may be able to do that level without spook, but spook helps a lot.

I have a lot of people to thank now for helping me along the way. Thanks to Insanity and Bougie who each helped me by partnering me on a few levels. Thanks to Jhaero for loaning me his 200 Yourban's soul. And many thanks to my clannies and friends who kept pestering me and motivating me about working on it, and especially for listening to me gripe about my failures.

I wouldn't mind talking about the strategies I used, but right now I'm going to try to suppress the whole thing as an unpleasant memory. Except for this part:

'Thank you, Lantis!' Lord Agrippa exclaims. 'I shall now make thee an Archon, as promised!'
You begin glowing with a bright magenta light, and feel previously unknown knowledge and wisdom entering your form!
For thy choice of the Path of Light, the Powers have granted thee a Mark.
You have gained the Mark of light!
You gain 41 practices!
'Lantis, thou art now an Archon!' Lord Agrippa exclaims.
A sepulchral voice announces, 'All congratulate Lantis, who is now an Archon!'
[CLAN] Lantis is now an Archon.
You have gained 18 new skills!
Your strength maximum has been increased to 21!
Your knowledge maximum has been increased to 25!
Your wisdom maximum has been increased to 21!
Your agility maximum has been increased to 24!
Your vitality maximum has been increased to 21!
Your luck maximum has been increased to 21!
Your courage maximum has been increased to 25!
Your sanity maximum has been increased to 22!
Your personality maximum has been increased to 21!
You have gained 250 practice sessions!

Mark of Loathing

This mark is available to 120+ adventurers for killing Fendawyr, the half-dragon, a boss in Tower of Art.

This is pretty straight forward. Go to Tower of Art and up to the final level (just below CPK level) and south. Pass some paladins, and round the corned to Fendawyr's lair.

He's not difficult to kill as he is intended as a third class boss, I think, so an archon should be able to manage him without breaking a sweat.

Fendawyr the half dragon is harmed on the torso with your energy causing lethal damage.
Uny'yun tells you 'You have killed 11 bosses in CPK.'
For registering your feelings towards a self-loathing creature in the worst way possible, the Powers have granted thee a Mark.
You have gained the Mark of loathing!
You gain 9 practices!
Fendawyr the half dragon has been slain!
Your blood freezes as you hear Fendawyr the half dragon's death cry.
You receive 0 archon points.
Fendawyr the half dragon collapses lifeless to the ground.

Mark of Love - Krypt and Lantis Tie the Knot

Finally, after being handfasted for more than a year, Krypt and myself were able to have a wedding. You'd think it would be easy to get married, but every time we tried to schedule one, something went wrong and it got cancelled or postponed.

Don't ask me how, but we got Artemisia to give us a quickie wedding when we were both on this afternoon before I had to go to work. No guests, no presents, and it was in the Wedding Macabre wedding hall of the complex.

It was a shotgun wedding. Krypt was starting to show, so we had to have the wedding soon. After the ceremony, we went to Sigil and tried to get the Mark of Love. Unfortunately, we went to the wrong place first. We started at the chapel and when it didn't work, we assumed someone else had been there since reboot to claim the mark.

Just for thoroughness though I went to the jewelers, not really expecting to get the mark, but I did. I felt bad about that, because then Krypt couldn't get it.

So, this mark is for anyone who is married. You receive it after you're married by walking into the Sigil Estate Jewelers, but it only works once every reboot.

The jeweler notices your ring, and gives you a friendly smile.
For finding your one true love, the Powers have granted thee a Mark.
You have been granted the Mark of Love!
You gain 75 practices!
You gain 50 archon points!

Mark of Luck

Maybe it was a mistake to get all these marks at once, but I wanted the practices right away so I could practice my monk spells. The sooner I get these marks out of the way, the more I'll be willing to quest because I'll know there's nothing else that will get me the rest of the practices I need. Additionally there are a couple more marks I haven't gotten yet that I still might get this class.

The mark of Luck is available to adventurers level 180 and above in social. In order to get this mark, you must visit the dice game area in the tower in social. To get the mark, you must win three times in a row through some combination of either rolling a 7 or an 11 on your first roll, or by hitting your point (rolling the same number on both tosses.)

A game of lucky dice consists of two throws. If you get a 7 or 11 on the first throw you win, also if the total of your second throw is the same as the first throw you win. You can lose by rolling a snake-eyes (a pair of ones) or a 12 on either roll, or by failing to roll the same number twice.

I won by rolling 11 twice in a row for the first two wins, followed by a pair of nines for the third. So, you don't even need to win in the same fashion all three times. Also, I was playing with copper bars, which are the cheapest to use, especially if you think it may take an extended period of time to get this mark. Based on this, it probably does not matter what metal the bars are that you use for this.

For beating the house at its own game, the Powers have granted thee a Mark.
You have been granted the Mark of Luck!
You gain 450000 experience points!
You gain 36 practices!

Mark of Lust

As far as I know, this is an archon-only mark. It is a mini quest at the Saucy Wench Tavern (760, 1303) that ends in a mark, if it is done correctly.

To begin, visit Vordena. She can usually be found in a hidden area underneath the Tavern that is accessible from the large stall in the stable or from the room north of the stairs. In that area, she is sometimes in the room south of the magically dark room.

If she is ready for you to start the mini then she will be in a state of looking for something she lost. Sayto Vordena lost and she will tell you that she's missing a locket that has a picture of her sick son in it. The locket can be found upstairs in the Inn in one of the rooms (the bathroom, I believe) on a hidden shelf. Typing get locket shelf will let you take the locket. Then, return the locket to Vordena.

You give a golden locket to Vordena.
'You found it!' Vordena exclaims. 'I thought I looked everywhere!'
Vordena wears a golden locket around her neck.

'Thank you so much, you have earned a special place in my heart, Lantis.' Vordena says.

'Let us go dance!' Vordena exclaims. 'I will meet you in the foyer!'
Vordena skips away to the north without noticing she has dropped a key.

The key will give you access to the locked upstairs room which is NPK and has Vordena's ill son, Andrew. This is not applicable to the mini quest though.

Follow her to the dance floor. She should now be in the same room as the tavern wench (a laughing serving wench, and she does not have shopkeeper flag.) Beckon to the wench who will ask you if you want to have some fun. Give her 5000 gold. At this point, she has to check with Vordena to make sure you're okay. She won't service you if Vordena isn't in the same room to vouch for you.

If you pass inspection, she will lead you into the locked back room of the tavern. As it turns out, this wench offers sadism as her specialty and begins beating you. Let her gradually work you over, keeping track of how much damage she may do on each stroke. Finally, when you are at the point when one more stroke will kill you, use the safe word that she gives you when she leads you into the room.

'Oh yes, Lantis.' a laughing serving wench says. 'You know what you like.'

'Come back to me anytime.' a laughing serving wench says.

A laughing serving wench leads you out of the room.

If you safe word any sooner, you don't get a mark. If you wait any longer, she'll kill you.

The wench winks at you slyly, before heading back into the fray.
For giving in to your deepest desires, the Powers have granted thee a Mark.
You have been granted The Mark of Lust!
You gain 21 practices!
You gain 75 archon points!
