This afternoon, I was chatting with my clannies about marks. Who needs to get more marks, which marks I still need (polarity, dignity, and ingress) and why I can't get them (various reasons.) Then, Xirote sees the raucous drunk in the bar in Rune. But he already has that mark, so he doesn't need it. Meanwhile, I am bemoaning the fact that I can't get the mark yet because I'm only level 120. To this, Althor and Xirote are quick to respond that I don't need to be higher than 120 to get the mark, in fact Althor claims to have gotten his at level 60. At any rate, Xirote tells me to hurry up and get to Rune, so I do. I brought my calm scroll (amber cowhide scroll) with me and a calm mixture that I happened to have left over from my first attempt to kill the Queen Bee in the Tavern of Boars with Yseara. So, I ran to Rune and met Xirote in the Perplexed Otter bar off of Main street. (The raucous drunk can also appear at the Seagull Tavern, I think it is, in Tellerium, and the Orc Death tavern in Lowangen.) I had to walk in and out a few times, and I took my wizard's cloak off for good measure, before he initiated combat with me. So I stood there jabbing him with my spear until he got to vomiting. Then I used my calm herb to stop the fight, and I got the mark.
Interestingly, I helped Kilowog get the mark a few days later, and he claims that the drunk is more difficult to kill in Lowangen. However, it is nigh impossible to get this mark in Tellerium when Tellerium is a magic-free town, because you can not cast calm, or even heal yourself during the fight without a pill or a potion. I received this mark for killing the Queen of Earth in the Catacombs of Shame in Templeton. I was just browsing the list, looking for something I could do at 3 in the morning when most sane people are sleeping, when I just decided to see if I could solo this mob. The Queen of Earth is the third mob that needs to be killed on the Queens run (not counting the bull in the arena.) If anyone is unfamiliar with this run, I recommend looking up the guide for the run provided on Knights of Chaos' site. I had previously attempted this mark, but was only able to get to the second queen (the Queen of Water,) but had such a difficult time defeating her (not sure if I even did kill her,) that I packed it in. This time though, I actually remembered to dispel the Queens before I debuffed them. Ha ha. I might have considered trying the Queen of Air also, but it really was getting late by then, and I did have things to do the next day.
This mark is very straightforward. Simply visit Ithrilis' Sacrarium in Pirate's Cove and give 100,000 gold to the priest as a tithe. Its right off a main road, and there is no PK involved whatsoever. On a whim, I decided to detour to the Rune castle knight's barracks on my way to get a quest from Lord Agrippa. You never know what you will find when you take the time to poke around. In order to get the mark of transformation, you have to find a scatter item called Potion Eighty-Six, and use it. The catch though is that the potion only gives the mark on a random, or based on if the level of the potion is applicable to the level of the player taking it. Fortunately, I was able to get the mark from the second potion I found. Mostly this mark just requires luck enough to find a potion for your level, or to buy one.
On my quest to obtain at least one trunk, I embarked on the next step toward my goal. As of third class, I had already run through the keep several times trying to complete quests for other quest masters, and usually ended up dying because the mobs in the keep squashed me. This time I went to the keep with the intention of questing for Lord Maldra and hopefully even getting a trunk. I had to request three quests from Lord Maldra before I got one I could complete, although I probably could have completed the first one if I had been able to find some sea monkeys. Bravely I kept running around looking for mobs. Apparently, a level 165 player just isn't very tempting for people who kill in the keep, so I was basically left alone. I'm sure it didn't hurt that there wasn't actually a trunk there to get. Even still, I did accomplish something by finishing a quest. Now, the next time I try for the trunk, I'll be that much more experienced.
This mark is from the annual All Spirits' Eve Global that happens around Halloween. Any level player can get this mark, but only during the global. To get the mark, you need to give a bag of candycorn item to a young druid global NPC. The bag of candycorn comes from candy goblin NPCs scattered in all global cities. To get the candycorn from this mob, you have to kill it, and when you do there is a good chance it will drop a bevy of candy, including this item. Then, give the candycorn to the young druid, and you may be rewarded with the mark, but it appears to be random. You give a bag of candycorn to a young druid. I first found out about this mark's existence a month or two ago, maybe more, when I saw it on another player's profile. Then, my interest in this mark was renewed when a small handful of my clan members got the mark all at once. I started really trying to find out whatever I could about it. Finally, I asked a knowledgeable member of the Blue Rose Alliance if he knew anything about it, and he told me what he could, and that was enough to sate my curiosity, but not enough to get me the mark. I started working on it by myself and was able to work out most of it, but it still would not work for me, and I couldn't precisely figure out why that was. So I dropped the subject for a few weeks because I had other things to keep myself busy with in MM as well as in real life. Fast forward to today... I was just minding my own business, questing, when my betrothed came online and started talking to me about this new mark that he found out about. Not only did he know about it, he knew how to make it work. So, he helped me get it, and held my stuff while I ran into CPK. It was touch and go for a while though, since he lost link in the middle and we both nearly drowned. I promised when I posted this a while ago that I would eventually fill in the details about how to get this mark, and I forgot to do it. So, I now feel enough time has passed and the mark is sufficiently public that I can tell you everything I know. First, go into the area under the Temple of Sumter in Rune (not the Crypts, but the place on the mountain.) For anyone who does not already know how to get in, simply search down in the room the priest is in and the entrance will appear.
The scroll he is asking for is a cure disease scroll, which is dropped by a kobold adventurer elsewhere in the area below the temple, or from a holy paladin in Atlantis.
Those two phrases not even similar. Please keep in mind that the phrase changes every time he is killed and the phrase shown here will not work for you, and will possibly even get you killed. Also, you will not be able to get the correct phrase from him unless he asks for 15k, and you may have to kill him and the other mobs related to this mark and allow them to repop before it will work. Go to the room with the lightning and fire golems and say the correct phrase. You will be taken to Dusty Chamber with a small iron chest in it. Search northwest and follow the path around to the end. I'd say be prepared to have some means to get through a locked door, such as bash or knock, and you should also have some way to keep yourself from drowning should you be in the area long enough to drown. There is some CPK in this area you will have to go into, including the last room on the path, a Tiny Chamber with a plain silvery chest. There should be a vial in the chest, though I have heard complaints of there not being one at times. When you remove the vial from the chest, you will be granted the mark.
Also, the righteous flail come out of the same chest that you pull the vial from. The chest at the beginning of the area can be opened with knock, and possibly also magic unlock and lock picking. Inside is about 16k in gold. Mark of Triumph (formerly Victory) and First CTF Trophy This one was a little annoying to categorize,
because I don't have the mark of Triumph, because I was awarded
the mark of Victory for this before it was disambiguated. So, I'll never
be able to get Triumph, even if I was eligible for it, and I'll also
never be able to get rewarded for doing the task for the victory mark,
because I already have the victory mark, but for doing something
different. I decided to put this mark under Triumph because this is
what you need to do for Triumph now... not Victory. I have been on a winning team in Capture the Flag once or twice before, but never in a sanctioned game. Tonight the Blue Rose Alliance decided we needed to play BRA alliance-only CTF. The first game only had 4 players though: Gobru, Vswan, Hillbilly, and I. It was a short game, mostly because the other team (Vswan and Hillbilly) let me keep running by them before they figured out the layout of their keep. Once they figured out how to play I had to start running away from them though. We played another game after that with 6 people, and I got another trophy, but I gave it to Gobru, and Gobru gave it to Hillbilly.
Then, Gobru took Hillbilly and I, and our new trophies to see the arena master in Templeton Catacombs. Just enter the room he is in, unformed, and it will take your trophy from your inventory and you will get the mark. As others have advised, so will I, that you should not try this with a trophy you want to keep.
This mark is given to adventures, usually low level adventurers, but it is available to everyone, for passing the NPC that guards the bridge in Rune Forest without killing it. Not much else to say about that. |
