Cavhfail - Glass Beast

I realized a little while ago that I made mention of the glass beast on the journal page when I was talking about Hydra's Den, but didn't actually talk about that. Knowing, as I do, that the novice clan has been passing around my site amongst themselves, I am going to elaborate on the glass beast run in case any of them are interested in trying it.

To begin, glass beast is difficult, and I would not recommend visiting him solo, though it can be done by as little as two people. Glass beast can be found inside of Cavhfail Keep on the Faerie Plane, and is highly annoying to get to for a novice. To get to the Faerie Plane, you will need some method of plane travel. I recommend using a jasper gemstone, or if you are a faerie race, having someone cast abjure on you. If available, you could take a world gate to the Faerie Plane, but they do not open there very often. Please be aware, the other methods of plane travel to the Faerie Plane involve risk. Plane travel potions are especially risky as there is as much chance of travelling to the Void which is all CPK, or landing in the Underground, mostly NPK/CPK with aggressive, very tough monsters.

If you make it to the Faerie Plane, walk to Cavhfail, a village located outside Unseelie Castle. The wilds of the Faerie Plane have aggressive and strong mobs that you hopefully will not run into. Improved invisibility helps when travelling in the wilds. Once you locate Cavhfail, and arrive alive, you will need to access the keep. For instructions on getting inside the keep, see mark of Captivity.

Once you are inside the keep, go to the prison section. From the down into the prison, go east, north, and all west. Then search to the south to reveal a hallway. Go all south in the hallway.

The glass beast is located in an LPK room that is south from the end of the hall. The room the glass beast is in is level-restricted to level 59 and under, like most first class runs used to be, and it is only accessible if you have detect illusion affecting you.

Needing to have detect illusion makes getting into this room a bitch for first classers. You might be able to use a scroll to cast it if you are level 59, but the potions that give detect illusion that you can buy will not work. They are too strong for a first classer.

There is a level 20 detect illusion potion in Rahdiyr though, that I believe is there for the purpose of getting in to glass beast. Rahdiyr is also on the Faerie Plane and is a village located outside the opposing Seelie Castle, diagonal to the northwest of Cavhfail. I believe the potion can be found in a locked chest in the hidden area underneath Rahdyir. You can get down there by searching for the hidden door that is at the east end of Dira Street. There is a CPK room further to the east of the down into the caverns, so be careful.

Additionally, the potions decay, so you may wish to hide them until you've camped several for the run. When you feel you are prepared with enough potions, return to the glass beast.

The glass beast can only be defeated with hand-to-hand, bash, and possibly magic. It has a script that will keep it at 5% health if you are trying to kill it with weapons, and thus it will never die. Also, the glass beast is probably immune to poison.

Should you triumph over this mob, you receive the glass beads he drops. They may or may not be good for anything. Presently, it seems that there is no mark for this run. The only reward is the experience and the experience points. Thanks to Aslan for providing the information to round out this guide.

Human Outpost - Grat and Vedder

This mini quest is in the Human Outpost on the Faerie Plane. I started working on this a while ago, but got some help recently from Araxia to make it complete.

To trigger this mini quest, enter the Bar of the Longbranch in the Human Outpost, and go around to the Empty Corner. Sit at the table with Grat and he will ask if you would like to hear a story.

You sit down at an almost empty table.
'Oh, hello.' Grat the Storyteller says. 'So few take the time to sit with me these days. Would you like to hear a story?'

'Yes' you say to Grat the Storyteller.
'Well, first, I should probably tell you how this ragtag bunch of humans came to find itself in a backwater outpost in the faerie realm wilderness.' Grat the Storyteller says. 'It's not really that interesting to tell, though.'

Grat the Storyteller takes a deep breath, and prepares to begin his tale.

Grat begins telling you about the Human Outpost. Eventually he mentions his pet and if you would like to hear about that story too. He will ask you which story you would like to hear about, to which you reply 'lost pet'. Grat will then tell you about the "chicken" he brought back from Hellbent Mountain, as though anything so innocuous would come from there.

He fondly recalls how his pet chases around the pet chicken of fellow settler, Vedder. He directs you to talk to Vedder.

Vedder the bard is very proud of Cornell the musical hen and tells you about how Grat's pet is sneaky and tries to eat the chickens in the city, including Cornell.  He suggests you get a feather from one of the chickens and see if Vedder's pet will chase it.

'It's funny to try.' Vedder the Bard says. 'You should do it. All you need is a feather from one of the chickens. Good luck with that, though. Their feathers hold to them about as tightly as a good coat of paint. The only way I've found to get a feather is to hope they're especially excited with their food. Sometimes they get a little over active and a feather or two seems to rattle itself free.'

Vedder the Bard says, 'I could probably spare you a bit of chicken food if you helped me out with something.'

'I will help.' you say to Vedder the Bard.

'Well, when we moved out to this place, I accidentally left my harmonica back in Rune.' Vedder the Bard says. 'I'm curious to see if I can teach any of these fluffy fairy chickens to cluck in time, like Cornell, but I had to teach her with the harmonica. So, if you'd head to Rune and find me my harmonica, or one like it, I'd gladly give you some food for the chickens.'

You give a metal harmonica to Vedder the Bard.

'Excellent.' Vedder the Bard says. 'Thanks. Here you go.'
Vedder the Bard gives you a handful of chicken feed.

Take the chicken feed and give it to any of the fluffy chickens in the settlement. This will cause them to drop a feather for you. Then, take the feather and give it to the fey chicken, Grat's pet. The fey chicken will form with you. Lead the fey chicken back to Grat in the bar.

'Oh, and for helping me, I'd like to give you this.' Grat the Storyteller says.

Grat the Storyteller gives you Grat's Puzzle Box.
Grat the Storyteller says, 'It's not the original, but it's pretty close.'

'Not quite as powerful, though.' Grat the Storyteller says. 'It'll work for a while, and transport you or whoever you let use it to this place.'

You focus your powers of observation on Grat's Puzzle Box:
Item 'Grat's Puzzle Box' is type warp-stone, alignment 500, made of iron, has keywords 'puzzle box grat warp stone'.
This item weighs 0 stones and 50 pebbles, and is valued at 28,500 gp.
This level 240 item has the attributes: identified nomail blessed no-sac no-auction no-donate no-mimic no-bury wont-fuse magic-resistant will-float
Grat's Puzzle Box is in excellent condition.
There are 10 charges remaining bound within Grat's Puzzle Box.
*This item has a limit of [1] per character.
This box represents the pinnacle of Grat's magical studies. The fact that it actually works says more for luck than skill, maybe, but nonetheless, it DOES work. It is a puzzle box consisting of an iron frame and sides made of jasper gemstone, and a top and bottom made of black moonstone. It hums and generates its own heat, though the stone sides stay cool to the touch. Quite a prize, indeed.

Seelie Castle - Shape Shifted Sidhe

In Seelie Castle, locate the shape-shifted sidhe, a protected mob. If it triggers, and it may only trigger if you have evil alignment, it will speak with you and request 8 fresh Necronomicons, 8 fresh sacrificial cult kris, 4 fresh giant bloody teeth, and 3 fresh demon claws.

Necronomicons can be purchased from players, or obtained by camping the demonic librarian in CPK in Arcane. A sacrificial cult kris are from the High Priest of Dracco in Dungeon Avarice. A giant bloody tooth is from the tyrannosaurus rex in Hellbent. A demon claw is from a deep spawn protector in Atlantis, which I believe is also in CPK.

So, have fun doing this one. Completing this mini quest rewards the mark of Justice, I've heard.

Unseelie Castle - Corporal Mendek

I don't know what this is about yet. Maybe its a mini, maybe its a mark. Either way, I thought it was interesting. This is first time Corporal Mendek has ever spoken to me, so it is noteworthy. I hope to follow up on this soon.

*A smartly-dressed member of the Unseelie armed forces sits here, eating.
'Hey Lantis, you look like the sporting sort.' Corporal Mendak says. 'Have any friends? I have a bet I want to win, but it requires a few adventurers of your sort. If you're interested, bring them all here and tell me you're ready to try it.'

Corporal Mendek is a protected mob located on the third floor of Unseelie Castle in the Feast room.

It seems that all you need is to be formed with two other people who are hero or higher, and sayto Corporal Mendek that you are ready. He tells you about the bet he has going that your form of three can kill three mobs that appear around Unseelie Castle in under thirty minutes. Not sure if this is game minutes, or real minutes.

For the whale mob, you can not cast spells in the same room with it, or it will flee to another part of the castle and you will have to locate it again to kill it. The whale seems to be easier to damage if you are not formed when you attack it also. The other two mobs are a cat and an octopus and were dispensed with handily. Good luck if you try this one.

According to Araxia, the reward for this mini is a bag of astral containment, but 15 astrals are required to get it.
